Generous Business Strategies: Part III
Many Christians have heard about the generosity of Hobby Lobby, but there’s another company in Oklahoma City that many locals point to when discussing generosity. The company’s name is Jasco and it specializes in light fixtures, home security, and general home electronics.
When I browsed Jasco’s website, I was impressed by not only their extreme generosity, but also by their strategy. Jasco remarkably gives away 50% of their profits to charitable causes, but another part of their strategy involves their customers.
When a customer buys from Jasco, they have the opportunity to direct a portion of their purchase to helping charities that provide food, shelter, water or disaster relief.
Psalm 112:5 teaches, “Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.”
50% of profits may be a daunting number. However, you do not have to start there or even end up there. The point is to do something. Look into charities and find something you can start with, preferably something you can engage your employees or customers with. However, don’t stay small.
Continue growing your generosity alongside your business. Pray today and ask God for a generous strategy for your business and for your customers.
Questions For Reflection
- Where does generosity fit into your business plan? Is it a cornerstone of your strategy or something you consider when your business is doing well?
- What charities are your employees already involved in? What would connect with your customers? What charities need the most support?
