Do Single Girls Matter?

This question should evoke a loud, resounding “Yes, of course, they do!” But unfortunately, the culture of our modern churches echoes an entirely different reality. Single women, whether young or old, often feel that they have yet to arrive at the destination of marriage. Once there, they will receive respect and maybe be taken more seriously. Too often, I have heard the words, “As a single woman, I feel treated like a second-class citizen within the church.”

Additionally, single sisters tend to receive an avalanche of (well-meaning) advice on what they should and shouldn’t do to find “their one true love.” When these remedies don’t work, they often feel inadequate, as if something is wrong with them. Single women are rarely trusted with weighty tasks or placed in significant ministry roles, regardless of their skills, passions, or qualifications. Instead, married women are automatically trusted and given opportunities to serve alongside their husbands. Paradoxically, it is usually assumed that single women can be given the grudge tasks and serve for longer hours as they have no family to attend to. All these realities communicate an untruth that single women matter less and, therefore, need to wait until they’re married to be used significantly by God.

This Bible plan aims to encourage YOU, my single sister, by focusing on the lives of 5 remarkable single women in the Bible. I trust we can begin to redeem the season of singleness from resembling a time of loneliness, confusion, and lack into an opportunity for growth, maturity, serving, intimacy with God, and much adventure.
