Godly Masculinity - Wisdom for Young MenSample
Introduction
Today we focus on another area of life: sexual purity. This is also one of those areas that can be deadly to a godly man.
In today's life, men that have access to many women are looked up to. But, in principle, that view is morally corrupt and is based on a lie.
Sexual purity
Sexual attraction is one of the strongest attractions in nature. Our enemy, Satan, knows this and want to use this to destroy lives.
By design God wants each man to have his own wife (1 Cor. 7:2). Also, we see in Prov. 5:15 that God instructs us to drink from our own well.
There is also a stark warning from God in Prov 5:3-14.
But, this is applicable to married men, right? No, fornication is a sexual sin, in the same way as adultery and homosexuality, and we see in scripture that none of them are tolerated by God (1 Cor. 6:9-10).
Examples in the bible:
- Samson - who died in his prime due to his inability to control lust.
- King David almost lost his entire kingdom and was plunged into a life of violence and heartbreak after his immoral relationship with Bathsheba.
So, if you are single, stay pure, and if you are married, stay true and committed to the wife God has given you. If you are single, apply self-control, wait for your future wife, and enter marriage pure.
- Ps. 119:9 (NLT)
- How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.
- Ps. 119:11 (NLT)
- I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Stay sexually pure and do not give the enemy any room to attack you.
What does it mean?
- If you are single, focus on becoming the right person instead of looking for the right person. The right woman will then naturally gravitate towards you.
- Do not play with fire.
- Be obedient to the Word of God. If the Word of God says no sex before marriage, then stick to that.
- Do not go out with ungodly women. Solomon tried it and failed and was temped into idolatry by his ungodly wives.
- Practice abstinence and self-control and trust God to send the right woman at the right time.
- For married men, the same applies: be true to your wife. Love her and serve her. Drink from your own well.
