The Latin word status quo is “the state in which.” Since infancy, the world has been spoon-feeding us “the state in which” our lives should appear. The status quo of a man, of a woman. The status quo of a democrat or a republican. The status quo of our races. The status quo of being financially successful. The world even tells us the status quo of our religion. We allow the typical way of living in the world to dictate our lives instead of allowing God’s truths to change “the state in which” we live.

God challenged me about the status quo of my life. As the New Year approached, I wanted my life to be different but I realized I kept running to the same source to change it. Every time I wanted to see a difference in how I lived, I would run back to the well of the world, dipping my ladle for another worldly solution to drink up. But it was time for real change, a lasting resolution. An uncommon solution not of this world but from a more significant, loving, and fulfilling source.

Let’s look at the state in which our lives are moving. Let’s be brave and live uncommonly in our relationship with Jesus.
