Daily Bible Reading—July 2024, God’s Guiding Word: Mercy and ForgivenessSample
July 4
Introduction
Isaiah 63:15—64:12: Today’s reading begins with a communal lament in which God’s love and mercy are remembered. God is petitioned to “tear the sky open and come down” (64:1). The reading concludes with a reference to the Babylonian army’s destruction of Jerusalem.
Today’s Key Verse: Isaiah 64:4
No one has ever seen or heard of a God like you, who does such deeds for those who put their hope in him.
Reflect
Reread Isaiah 64:8, which speaks of the LORD creating and forming the people of Israel like a potter shapes a piece of clay into something useful or beautiful. What does the image of God as a potter suggest to you? In what ways do you believe God has shaped your life?
Pray
Compassionate God, I thank you for your mercy and for your unfailing and constant love. Mold me and shape me so that my life reflects honor and glory to you. I praise you now and forever. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Isaiah 66:1–11: The worship God demands.
