What Matters Most (The Book of 2 Timothy)Sample
REFLECT
Perhaps you’ve experienced the urgency that strikes when you receive the call that a loved one is slipping into eternity. Somehow you arrive by their side, but you can’t remember packing or maybe even travelling to get there. Feelings of helplessness overtake your mind and life trickles down to soaking up any last beautiful moment that you possibly can. You quickly realized that life really boils down to a relationship with God and relationships with others.
The verses for today’s reading include direct instruction for Timothy. Paul says, “Come quickly.” He provides practical information surrounding his ministry team with the locations of each member; he also requests a few items for Timothy to bring to him. I wonder if Timothy was panicked or if he remembered to take everything on Paul’s short list.
Let’s not wait for urgency to force loving the ones God has given to us. May we make today’s moments truly count toward loving God and others, realizing that we are not promised tomorrow.
PRAY
Father, thank you for Paul’s words that remind me to love you and others before anything else. Give me the grace to walk through life’s moments of urgency and peace alike. Amen.
