The Self-Care Devotional

DAY 5 OF 7

Opening Up to Others

While it may be one of the most difficult things to do at times, being honest is freeing. To off-load what’s burdening you to a trusted friend or family member often feels like a one-hundred-pound weight off your chest. To pray for one another with all secrets on the table is powerful. We’re not meant to carry our struggles alone, and sharing them sets us up for healing and restoration. But realize that the enemy wants you to keep sins hidden because then he can taunt you with them. He can heap shame and guilt on you. But his plans fall flat when you share. And each time you do, it’s a self-care decision that brings freedom and healing. Friend, God designed community to help empower you to walk out a life of faith. But be wise in who you open up to because not everyone has earned the right to hear your heart. Ask God to show you who will listen and love faithfully.

Prayer: Dear God, I’m scared to share my struggles because I’m afraid of being judged. Guide me to the people I can trust. And then give me the ability to open up appropriately. Amen.
