DAY 5 OF 25

One of the most difficult parts of our faith can be understanding who we are in our relationship with God. While so many things make this difficult, one of the most challenging aspects of unpacking this relationship is the fact that all we have to compare it to are our human relationships. More specifically, we tend to view God through the same lens as we view our parents.

If our parents are generous, loving, and kind, it’s easy to see God in the same light. If our parents are harsh, punishing, and defensive, we start to think God might be the same. If our parents are absent altogether, it’s even more difficult to believe that God would love and stay with us as a Father. No matter what your relationship with your earthly parents may be, it’s important to remember Paul’s words here in Galatians. You have access to a heavenly Father who will never fail, never leave us, never hurt us, and never call us anything other than His children. Because of His Spirit in us, we can connect to Him as His children. We can call out to Him as a Father. We can rest in our identity rooted in Him.

Take time to reflect on what this truth means specifically to you. Journal about it, spend time in prayer, or talk to a trusted person in your life about how you view God as your Father and yourself as His child.

About this Plan

Rooted

Like a plant, our root system—our identity—is vitally important to our health. It’s how you see yourself in light of God, others, and the world. It’s what holds you when life changes, threatens, or causes you to question what’s true about you! We’ll look at how a healthy identity rooted in who God is will keep us strong, vibrant, and grounded no matter what comes our way.
