Grace-Filled Motherhood

DAY 5 OF 14

A Mother Who Prays

Read: Ephesians 1:15-23

SOAP: Ephesians 1:17-19

"I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, will give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him, - since the eyes of your heart have been enlightened- so that you can know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the incomparable greatness of his power toward us who believe, as displayed in the exercise of His immense strength."

Into the Text

Sweet sister,

One of the rhythms of my family is that each night, I individually put my three girls to bed and pray over them. I’ve done this since they were babies, and two out of three are now teenagers. Some nights, the prayers are more individualized and longer. Other nights, the prayers are broader and shorter.

Let’s be honest, though. There are some nights that I’m just bone tired. Prayer becomes a deliberate choice, especially as I get older and grow more tired earlier. Yet, I know how much my girls enjoy the personal one-on-one time with me to tell me about their days. In these everyday moments, they feel heard and valued.

After we catch up on their day, I pray aloud over them. I believe it is important for our children to hear our prayers, to know we are praying and spiritually fighting for them. My prayers range from personal to impersonal and big to small issues. I pray for their protection and for wisdom to increase in their lives. I pray for their friends, our family, and our leaders. If significant events are happening locally or around the world, I pray for them, too. No matter the topic, I want my children to know that all issues make it to our Lord’s listening ears. It is a privilege to come before our heavenly Father in thanksgiving, confession, supplication, and adoration. No prayer request is too big or too small for Him. He cares about it all and is in charge of it all.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, help me to teach my children the importance of prayer. Help them to see the power of prayer. May we see You in the way we pray and through the ways you answer prayers. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you.

About this Plan

Grace-Filled Motherhood

Motherhood is a calling! In the struggles of motherhood, we are given opportunities to be molded into Christ’s image and reflect His character to those around us. In the gift of motherhood, we have the incredible privilege to shape, nurture, and love our children in a way that reflects the heart of God. Over the next 14 days we will deepen our understanding of motherhood through God's Word.
