Why Reading God's Word Is a Big Deal.

DAY 3 OF 8

Think of doing life through the lenses of scripture. What if you asked God to give you a perspective to see what he sees? God wants us to be set apart in this world. He wants us to look more like Jesus when we’re surrounded by people who don’t know Jesus. To be different – to be the light. And if God calls us to be different, then we need to know HOW to be different, right?

To know God, we need to KNOW God’s Word! How can we know God if we don’t KNOW his scriptures? The WORD IS GOD. Understanding who God is is what builds our relationship with him. It needs to be the foundation that we build on, not something that we sprinkle in when we have extra time. It’s like any relationship – how can you be close to someone if you don’t really take the time to get to know them?

I know my husband’s favorite sweet treat is anything with peanut butter in it. I know what books he enjoys, what type of movies he loves, and what he’s passionate about. I know his habits, his favorite movie quotes, his hurts, his past wounds, his insecurities, and his dreams because we’ve invested the time to get to know each other. We’ve spent years together, learning these things. Think of the people close to you in your life. Think of how much you have invested in those relationships and how much you’ve received from those relationships. Now, imagine doing that with God. What if we invested in getting to know him through His Word as we do in our marriages, families, friendships, or, for those workaholics – our careers?

When the Word of God is in your heart andit’s the first thing you use to gain perspective in your relationships, circumstances, trials, and mindset, then your focus is on what’s important. And then the peace of God rests on you.

God promises that his Word will not return to him void and that it shall prosper and accomplish what pleases him. So, if his Word accomplishes his will and desires, how amazing would it be to truly know it and look at the world through that lens?!
