Heroes, or Witnesses of FaithSample
Abram
“Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you.” (Genesis 12:1).
In the Bible, we find several examples of people who had the courage to start walking with God. Abram was such a person. He had the guts to listen to God's voice and went on his way. He had only the voice of God and the stars as his navigation. For Abram, this voice was convincing enough to leave his familiar surroundings.
His wife, cousin, staff, livestock, and possessions went with him. Abram and his family probably already lived semi-nomadic lives, and he was used to moving around. But this journey was completely life-changing. Imagine traveling with livestock, staff, and families, in search of places to stay, looking for water and pasture, not knowing how long the journey would take. Would the length of this journey be monotonous, arduous, and frustrating? Abram did have one comforting assurance: God would show them the way to the new land AND travel with him.
As believers we, too, like to clearly see the way that God wants us to go with Him. The same reassuring certainty applies to us: God does not lose sight of his children.
Where did Abram get the motivation to persevere?
What helps you to keep going on your journey with God?
