Jesus tells us that serving others and doing good is how we shine our light. That’s a pretty big deal, right? Well, Jesus didn’t leave it there. He also reminds us that when we do shine that light, it’s not about us. The good things we do for others aren’t for our reward or glory. It isn’t about making us look good. Rather, it’s about reflecting the light and love of God to those around us. When we do good deeds, we do them to shine God’s light into the world and point others back to God’s love for them.

Work on memorizing this verse this week. To do that, talk to a trusted adult, friend, or Small Group leader about opportunities you see to shine God’s light into the world. Ask them to use this verse to encourage you to take a step toward doing just that!
