Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil (1 Kings 3:9).
What would you ask God for if He granted you one request?
The verb for “understanding” literally means to hear. At times it carries the idea of understanding as it does in 1 Kings 3:9. Solomon desires to govern the children of Israel by discerning good and evil. James informs us that God grants wisdom to all those who ask (James 1:5). Then he continues, “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind” (James 1:6). Clearly the Lord of all wisdom gives Solomon a “hearing heart” as is demonstrated by his wise decision between the two prostitutes and two babies—one alive and one dead (1 Kings 3:16-28). Let’s seek the wisdom from above by faith.
Employment Point: Ask God for an understanding heart to serve Him wisely.
