A Week of Hope

DAY 6 OF 7

His Mercies are New Every Morning

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. -- Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)

In God, there is life. Moses lays that out plainly in Deuteronomy. Turning away from Him results in the absence of life -- death. Moses had seen this happen in his generation. The Israelites turned away from God. They were the people who had a promise over their lives, but they never got to step into the amazing things God had planned for them. They turned away from God and missed out on the lives He designed for them to live.

However, this isn't a message of exclusivity. It's a message of hope because God always offers a way to return to Him. No matter how far you wander away from the promises of God, there is a way back. When we turn to Him, the source of life, we will find restoration, guidance, and a future.

We have hope because of the infinite compassion of the Lord. You and I have a limit to our mercy -- we can only forgive a person so many times before our frustration overpowers our compassion. The Lord's mercies -- His acts of kindness -- are new every morning. He will always have the capacity to forgive. There is hope for all who turn to Jesus.

Next Step

Look for areas of your life that you haven't allowed God's grace reach. What shame, fear, or guilt have you let hinder you from experiencing God's love, grace, and mercy? You can come to Him with everything because of his infinite compassion. Take 30 minutes to sit in his presence and acknowledge that He has gone to great lengths to make room for a relationship with you. When you turn over these areas of your life to Him, you will experience the life He has to offer.
