The Power of a United Family Vision

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: Your Direction Inside Your Family

Without you, your family is incomplete.

Yesterday, we talked about Family Direction. Today, let’s help bring clarity and understanding to your personal direction within your family's journey; it’s all about utilizing your vision to contribute to the overall path your family is collectively choosing to take. God communicates with us in various ways—through people and circumstances. Each family member, including yourself, brings something unique to the household, and while your goals may differ, they all play a role in shaping the family dynamics.

Consider your family's vision as a shared journey. While individual goals may lead down different paths, especially as life unfolds, maintaining open communication ensures that everyone is generally moving in the same direction toward God.

When your personal goals appear to deviate from the family's overall direction, turning to prayer can bring understanding. It's not about relinquishing your dreams but seeking God's wisdom and will to navigate the differences. Differences are expected, and none of them catches God by surprise.

If you examine Joseph’s story in Genesis 37:5-11, you’ll notice that he not only lacks awareness but the way he communicated his visions, resulted in tension within his family. While sharing personal goals and dreams is not inherently wrong, Joseph's approach may have contributed to his family's struggle in understanding God's purpose for him. Nevertheless, his story concludes with the fulfillment of God's purpose and restoration within his family. This highlights the significance of conveying God's direction in a humble and life-giving manner, inviting your family to offer encouragement and support as you passionately and humbly live in alignment with God's will.

Navigating personal and family goals is akin to working on a project together. It involves creating a vision that requires the entire family to plan and piece together. Each family member contributes a part, emphasizing the importance of communication for healthy collaboration and interdependence. As Philippians 3:13 reminds us, "forgetting the past and looking forward" is crucial as we press on toward our heavenly prize.

Learning how to reach personal goals and understanding their impact on the family's direction is an ongoing process. Joshua 1:9 encourages strength and courage, reminding us that the LORD is with us wherever we go. Embrace change, recognizing that within the family dynamic, your individual contribution is absolutely necessary. You help shape your Family Identity and contribute to your Family Purpose, making your Family Direction incomplete without you!

  1. In what ways can you continually learn and grow in understanding the ongoing process of reaching personal goals while positively influencing the family's journey?
  2. Viewing personal and family goals as a collaborative project, how can you contribute your unique part to create a shared vision that emphasizes the importance of communication for healthy collaboration and interdependence?
  3. When faced with differences between your personal goals and the family's direction, how might prayer be a tool for seeking understanding without relinquishing your dreams?
  4. Consider the idea of leaning into differences within the family dynamic. How comfortable are you with leaning on or accepting differences in personal and family goals? Are there specific areas where you can develop a mindset of openness and resilience, recognizing that differences are a natural part of the family journey?
