From Now OnSample
Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!
S: Scripture
If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.
O: Observation
Read Matthew 10:40–42 again.
- Who was Jesus talking to?
- Who was Jesus referring to when he said, "the one who sent me?"
- What does this passage teach us about how trusting Jesus is different than relying on another human?
A: Application
- What do you think about the idea that if someone welcomes you, they welcome Jesus?
- How does this passage challenge the way you view Jesus' presence?
- What do you think could change in how you interact with others because of this passage?
P: Prayer
Spend some time in prayer about the people around you that reflect Jesus' presence in your life. It could be people who reveal Jesus to you or someone you can share Jesus with. Ask God for guidance in knowing the actions you can take that will lead others to Jesus. Thank Jesus for giving his presence in tangible ways.
