When You're Worried About Loved OnesSample

When You're Worried About Loved Ones

DAY 2 OF 3

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF YOUR PRAYERS

I think sometimes when situations seem overwhelming -- in our lives or in the lives of others -- we feel helpless so we don’t do anything. Or worse, we don't think our prayers will do any good, so we worry and talk about the troubles instead.

But I realized that night I could pray for them and expect God to hear and answer. Not just “oh please, oh please God” prayers, not just “a-wishin’ and a-hopin’” prayers, but prayers based on God’s Word. James 5:16 says that kind of praying makes tremendous power available dynamic in its working (AMPC).

Prayers based on God’s Word are the kind of prayers that get answers – and that’s the kind of praying I want to do!

You must be fully convinced that God hears and acts on your prayers. If you don’t have that kind of confidence in your prayers yet, read and speak this verse in 1 John 5:14-15 over and over – put yourself in the verse and read it this way: Now this is the confidence that (I) have in Him, that if (I) ask anything according to His will, He hears (me). And if (I) know that He hears (me), whatever (I) ask, (I) know that (I) have the petitions that (I) have asked of Him.

Read and speak that as many times as you need to. Because you need to believe that He hears you when you pray! Look at Psalm 40:1 - I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry, and Psalm 116:2 - Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. I love the imagery of these verses: God is inclining His ear toward you when you pray – He’s leaning over to listen to you.

So pray in faith. Don’t doubt! The Bible says we need to ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord (James 1:6-7).

On that night when I was losing sleep over my loved ones, I knew I needed to grab hold of God’s Word and believe that my prayers work.

And you can do that too. Say this “When I pray, God hears. When I pray, my prayers work!” My prayers work! Never underestimate the power of your prayers
