On Repeat

DAY 8 OF 28

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read John 15:9–17 again.

  • What stands out to you?
  • What words did Jesus use to describe his love for us?
  • How would you summarize this passage in one sentence?

A: Application

  • "Laying down one's life" isn't necessarily about dying for someone. It most often comes through small actions. What are simple ways you can put others first daily?
  • Jesus chose to call us "friends." Who's someone you could extend the title of friendship to?
  • What do you think would change in your relationships if you made a habit of putting others first?

P: Prayer

Spend some time in prayer talking to God about what it looks like to put others first. Ask for strength to set aside any selfishness you feel and wisdom to see those that need to be shown love. Then say thank you to God that through Jesus we have an example of sacrificial love.

About this Plan

On Repeat

When music connects with us, we can play a song on repeat and never get tired of it. When Jesus taught his followers what it looked like to live for God, he wanted them to get that same feeling. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll explore the ways Jesus treated people and how we can make loving like Jesus a part of our lives.
