Why and How to Do a Bible Study With Someone You’re Dating

DAY 4 OF 5

The How pt. 2

John 15:4

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

Consistency is key when it comes to doing a Bible study with someone you’re dating. It is what keeps us close to God and rooted in His goodness. A few ways to stay consistent are to get organized about what your Bible study will look like. What will you read? When will you do it? Where will you do it? Figuring out these details will set you up to get the most out of the experience.

Step 2: Choose Your Material

Decide whether you want to follow a guided Bible study or simply read through a book of the Bible. Guided studies provide structure and topics for discussion, which is particularly helpful if you're looking for insights into specific areas of your relationship or personal spiritual growth. On the other hand, choosing a book of the Bible to read together allows for more flexibility and spontaneous discussions.

Step 3: Set a Schedule

Consistency doesn’t only apply to the approach but also to the timing. Look at your schedules and decide on a regular time slot that works for both of you. This could be a weekly evening, a quiet morning, or any other time that allows you both to be fully present without distractions. If distance makes in-person meetings challenging, technology can bridge the gap — consider video calls as a way to maintain your routine. The key is to prioritize these sessions, much like any other important appointment.

Step 4: Create a Comfortable Environment

The setting for your Bible study can greatly influence the quality of your discussions and engagement. If you’re meeting in person, choose a spot where you both feel relaxed and open—this could be a cozy corner of your home, a serene park, or a quiet café. For virtual sessions, ensure you have a quiet, private space where you won’t be interrupted. The goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages openness and meaningful conversations about the Lord.

As Christians, we’re called to “remain” in God. You'll be doing just that by getting organized and taking your joint Bible study seriously.
