DAY 4 OF 5

Find Godly Confidence

When you step into a new season of life, feeling confident can be a challenge. There are so many new things to learn, so many new people to meet, so many new dynamics to navigate. It can be tempting to fade into the background rather than speak up and stand out. But when you’re following God’s call, He usually has other plans for you.

In the Bible, we see this truth play out in the life of Moses. He’s famous for the role he played in freeing the Hebrews from Egyptian captivity. But courage didn’t come naturally to Moses. When God first spoke to him from a burning bush, calling him to confront Pharaoh, Moses responded reluctantly:

… “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” … “Lord, please! Send anyone else.” Exodus 4:10, 13 NLT

Moses struggled with massive self-doubt. But over time, he found confidence—not in himself, but in God. The same person who originally lacked confidence was later able to tell his people:

… “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:13-14 NLT

The next time you find yourself in a new situation or season of life and feel the temptation to quietly stay in the background, ask yourself: Where are you placing your confidence? Rather than lacking confidence—or putting too much confidence in yourself—develop godly confidence by trusting in God and the work He’s doing in you and through you. When you find your confidence in God, amazing things can happen.

Next Step: Take time this week to read the story of Moses in chapter 3 and 4 of Exodus. What is God saying to you through this story? Share your thoughts with a family member, friend, or coworker.
