King & KingdomsSample

Have you ever had someone angry at you and didn't know why? It's a frustrating situation and can make you feel incredibly helpless. How can you make it right if you don't even know what you did? To make it worse, what if you didn't even know who was mad at you, but you were feeling the consequences of their anger?
There's a famous prayer from thousands of years ago called the Prayer to Every God. For nearly 500 words, the writer of the prayer pours out their heart that they feel there is a god angry with them, oppressing their life--but they don't know what god is angry, what they did, or how to make it right. So they pray and pray, throwing words out to the universe, simply hoping beyond hope that they get a reply.
Sometimes the God of the Bible's quick and direct responses to people can seem tough. But think of the alternative: you disobey a god who has never made any effort to know you, tell you the rules, or explain to you how to make it right. How generous and kind is it of our God that he doesn't leave us in the dark? He's up front with everything, so that we don't have to grope in the dark to find our way. His Word is a light to our feet and lamp to our path.
Think it Over: Do you tend to see God's Word as a chore, or a gift?
