King & KingdomsSample

Like we've read this week, the story of 1 Kings is a story of people repeatedly relying on people over God. They desperately want life to come together and work, to feel really free. The fear that things won't work out, keeps driving them. So, they try to make it happen themselves, which repeatedly lets them down, and only ends up making life worse.
That's what it really means to be a slave to sin. Even as you try to make life work your own way, you only end up further from where you wanted to be. But God created a system for true joy and freedom. Freedom from sin, freedom from fear, freedom from death. In John 8, Jesus tells us that the truth will set us really free. What he means is owning up: that we've tried and failed. That we can't make life work. That we need someone to save us. When we can say that, real freedom begins.
Think it Over: If you could have more freedom in one area of your life, where would it be? Invite God to enter in and begin leading you into true freedom right there.
