God’s Story Is Our Story: From Genesis To Jesus

DAY 15 OF 246

Reflecting on the last week: After the disaster at Babel, it seems all hope is lost. But God’s redemptive plan takes a surprising turn. He chooses an elderly man and woman out of the wreckage, to make into a nation through which he would restore creation. This couple was not a strange choice simply because of their age, but also because they had no children. They lived their entire lives hurting from the pain of infertility. How could an entire nation come from them? But God promised to bless them with a child in their old age. Kings and queens will come from their line. This blessing was not merely for their sake—it was for the sake of the world. Somehow, through their faith and their family, God would unleash his cosmic blessing (life, love, justice and mercy) onto every nation. Paul calls the promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 “the gospel beforehand” (Gal. 3:8). Why? He realized that Jesus’ life, death, resurrection and ascension as king over creation were the “somehow” (Gal. 3:8). Through Jesus, a descendent of Abraham, God’s cosmic blessing is being poured out onto all of creation, until one day when he returns and restores things back to the way God intended them in Genesis 1-2. When we consider this, should it not lead us to marvel? 1800 years before Jesus walked on earth, God was promising him. God was making a way for him. God was committing himself to the cosmic restoration he alone could bring about.

About this Plan

God’s Story Is Our Story: From Genesis To Jesus

Make God’s story your story. This plan will help you do that by providing an overview of scripture, and showing how it fits together as one unified story. We highlight three themes through daily scripture readings, Bible Project videos, and original devotions: 1) Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament. 2) God’s mission to restore creation. 3) God’s surprising grace in the face of human idolatry, evil, and injustice.
