 <div class="label">19</div><div class="s1">Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon&#8217;s Fall</div><div class="p"> 1After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:</div><div class="q1">&#8220;Hallelujah!</div><div class="q1">Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,</div><div class="q2"> 2for true and just are his judgments.</div><div class="q1">He has condemned the great prostitute</div><div class="q2">who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.</div><div class="q1">He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 3And again they shouted:</div><div class="q1">&#8220;Hallelujah!</div><div class="q1">The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 4The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:</div><div class="q1">&#8220;Amen, Hallelujah!&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 5Then a voice came from the throne, saying:</div><div class="q1">&#8220;Praise our God,</div><div class="q2">all you his servants,</div><div class="q1">you who fear him,</div><div class="q2">both great and small!&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 6Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:</div><div class="q1">&#8220;Hallelujah!</div><div class="q2">For our Lord God Almighty reigns.</div><div class="q1"> 7Let us rejoice and be glad</div><div class="q2">and give him glory!</div><div class="q1">For the wedding of the Lamb has come,</div><div class="q2">and his bride has made herself ready.</div><div class="q1"> 8Fine linen, bright and clean,</div><div class="q2">was given her to wear.&#8221;</div><div class="qm">(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God&#8217;s holy people.)</div><div class="p"> 9Then the angel said to me, &#8220;Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!&#8221; And he added, &#8220;These are the true words of God.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 10At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, &#8220;Don&#8217;t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast</div><div class="p"> 11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. &#8220;He will rule them with an iron scepter.&#8221;#19:15 Psalm 2:9 He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:</div><div class="pc">king of kings and lord of lords.</div><div class="p"> 17And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, &#8220;Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.</div>

 <div class="label">20</div><div class="s1">The Thousand Years</div><div class="p"> 1And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.</div><div class="p"> 4I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They#20:4 Or God; I also saw those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5(The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.</div><div class="s1">The Judgment of Satan</div><div class="p"> 7When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth&#8212;Gog and Magog&#8212;and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God&#8217;s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.</div><div class="s1">The Judgment of the Dead</div><div class="p"> 11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.</div>

God&#8217;s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4&#8216;He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death&#8217;#21:4 Isaiah 25:8 or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 5He who was seated on the throne said, &#8220;I am making everything new!&#8221; Then he said, &#8220;Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 6He said to me: &#8220;It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars&#8212;they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">The New Jerusalem, the Bride of the Lamb</div><div class="p"> 9One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, &#8220;Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.&#8221; 10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. 13There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.</div><div class="p"> 15The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia#21:16 That is, about 1,400 miles or about 2,200 kilometers in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits#21:17 That is, about 200 feet or about 65 meters thick.#21:17 Or high 18The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.#21:20 The precise identification of some of these precious stones is uncertain. 21The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.</div><div class="p"> 22I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb&#8217;s book of life.</div>

And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.</div><div class="s1">John and the Angel</div><div class="p"> 6The angel said to me, &#8220;These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.&#8221;</div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"> 7 &#8220;Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.&#8221;</div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"> 8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. 9But he said to me, &#8220;Don&#8217;t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 10Then he told me, &#8220;Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near. 11Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.&#8221;</div><div class="s1">Epilogue: Invitation and Warning</div><div class="p"> 12 &#8220;Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.</div><div class="p"> 14 &#8220;Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.</div><div class="p"> 16 &#8220;I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you # 22:16 The Greek is plural. this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.&#8221;</div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"> 17The Spirit and the bride say, &#8220;Come!&#8221; And let the one who hears say, &#8220;Come!&#8221; Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"> 18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.</div><div class="p"> 20He who testifies to these things says, &#8220;Yes, I am coming soon.&#8221;</div><div class="p">Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.</div><div class="p"> 21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God&#8217;s people. Amen.</div>

Each division consisted of 24,000 men.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="li1"> 2In charge of the first division, for the first month, was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel. There were 24,000 men in his division. 3He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army officers for the first month.</div><div class="li1"> 4In charge of the division for the second month was Dodai the Ahohite; Mikloth was the leader of his division. There were 24,000 men in his division.</div><div class="li1"> 5The third army commander, for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. He was chief and there were 24,000 men in his division. 6This was the Benaiah who was a mighty warrior among the Thirty and was over the Thirty. His son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.</div><div class="li1"> 7The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel the brother of Joab; his son Zebadiah was his successor. There were 24,000 men in his division.</div><div class="li1"> 8The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.</div><div class="li1"> 9The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. There were 24,000 men in his division.</div><div class="li1"> 10The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.</div><div class="li1"> 11The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbekai the Hushathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.</div><div class="li1"> 12The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjamite. God&#8217;s wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book#27:24 Septuagint; Hebrew number of the annals of King David.</div><div class="s1">The King&#8217;s Overseers</div><div class="p"> 25Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the royal storehouses.</div><div class="p">Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the storehouses in the outlying districts, in the towns, the villages and the watchtowers.</div><div class="p"> 26Ezri son of Kelub was in charge of the workers who farmed the land.</div><div class="p"> 27Shimei the Ramathite was in charge of the vineyards.</div><div class="p">Zabdi the Shiphmite was in charge of the produce of the vineyards for the wine vats.</div><div class="p"> 28Baal-Hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore-fig trees in the western foothills.</div><div class="p">Joash was in charge of the supplies of olive oil.</div><div class="p"> 29Shitrai the Sharonite was in charge of the herds grazing in Sharon.</div><div class="p">Shaphat son of Adlai was in charge of the herds in the valleys.</div><div class="p"> 30Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels.</div><div class="p">Jehdeiah the Meronothite was in charge of the donkeys.</div><div class="p"> 31Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the flocks.</div><div class="p">All these were the officials in charge of King David&#8217;s property.</div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"> 32Jonathan, David&#8217;s uncle, was a counselor, a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel son of Hakmoni took care of the king&#8217;s sons.</div><div class="p"> 33Ahithophel was the king&#8217;s counselor.</div><div class="p">Hushai the Arkite was the king&#8217;s confidant. 34Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah and by Abiathar.</div><div class="p">Joab was the commander of the royal army.</div>

 <div class="label">28</div><div class="s1">David&#8217;s Plans for the Temple</div><div class="p"> 1David summoned all the officials of Israel to assemble at Jerusalem: the officers over the tribes, the commanders of the divisions in the service of the king, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of all the property and livestock belonging to the king and his sons, together with the palace officials, the warriors and all the brave fighting men.</div><div class="p"> 2King David rose to his feet and said: &#8220;Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it. 3But God said to me, &#8216;You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.&#8217;</div><div class="p"> 4&#8220;Yet the Lord, the God of Israel, chose me from my whole family to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah as leader, and from the tribe of Judah he chose my family, and from my father&#8217;s sons he was pleased to make me king over all Israel. 5Of all my sons&#8212;and the Lord has given me many&#8212;he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel. 6He said to me: &#8216;Solomon your son is the one who will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. 7I will establish his kingdom forever if he is unswerving in carrying out my commands and laws, as is being done at this time.&#8217;</div><div class="p"> 8&#8220;So now I charge you in the sight of all Israel and of the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God: Be careful to follow all the commands of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever.</div><div class="p"> 9&#8220;And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 10Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house as the sanctuary. Be strong and do the work.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 11Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple, its buildings, its storerooms, its upper parts, its inner rooms and the place of atonement. 12He gave him the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the temple of the Lord and all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the temple of God and for the treasuries for the dedicated things. 13He gave him instructions for the divisions of the priests and Levites, and for all the work of serving in the temple of the Lord, as well as for all the articles to be used in its service. 14He designated the weight of gold for all the gold articles to be used in various kinds of service, and the weight of silver for all the silver articles to be used in various kinds of service: 15the weight of gold for the gold lampstands and their lamps, with the weight for each lampstand and its lamps; and the weight of silver for each silver lampstand and its lamps, according to the use of each lampstand; 16the weight of gold for each table for consecrated bread; the weight of silver for the silver tables; 17the weight of pure gold for the forks, sprinkling bowls and pitchers; the weight of gold for each gold dish; the weight of silver for each silver dish; 18and the weight of the refined gold for the altar of incense. He also gave him the plan for the chariot, that is, the cherubim of gold that spread their wings and overshadow the ark of the covenant of the Lord.</div><div class="p"> 19&#8220;All this,&#8221; David said, &#8220;I have in writing as a result of the Lord&#8217;s hand on me, and he enabled me to understand all the details of the plan.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 20David also said to Solomon his son, &#8220;Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished. 21The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the work on the temple of God, and every willing person skilled in any craft will help you in all the work. The officials and all the people will obey your every command.&#8221;</div>

 <div class="label">29</div><div class="s1">Gifts for Building the Temple</div><div class="p"> 1Then King David said to the whole assembly: &#8220;My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God. 2With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God&#8212;gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise,#29:2 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain. stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble&#8212;all of these in large quantities. 3Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple: 4three thousand talents#29:4 That is, about 110 tons or about 100 metric tons of gold (gold of Ophir) and seven thousand talents#29:4 That is, about 260 tons or about 235 metric tons of refined silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today?&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 6Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king&#8217;s work gave willingly. 7They gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents#29:7 That is, about 190 tons or about 170 metric tons and ten thousand darics#29:7 That is, about 185 pounds or about 84 kilograms of gold, ten thousand talents#29:7 That is, about 380 tons or about 340 metric tons of silver, eighteen thousand talents#29:7 That is, about 675 tons or about 610 metric tons of bronze and a hundred thousand talents#29:7 That is, about 3,800 tons or about 3,400 metric tons of iron. 8Anyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.</div><div class="s1">David&#8217;s Prayer</div><div class="p"> 10David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,</div><div class="q1">&#8220;Praise be to you, Lord,</div><div class="q2">the God of our father Israel,</div><div class="q2">from everlasting to everlasting.</div><div class="q1"> 11Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power</div><div class="q2">and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,</div><div class="q2">for everything in heaven and earth is yours.</div><div class="q1">Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;</div><div class="q2">you are exalted as head over all.</div><div class="q1"> 12Wealth and honor come from you;</div><div class="q2">you are the ruler of all things.</div><div class="q1">In your hands are strength and power</div><div class="q2">to exalt and give strength to all.</div><div class="q1"> 13Now, our God, we give you thanks,</div><div class="q2">and praise your glorious name.</div><div class="p"> 14&#8220;But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 15We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. 16Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. 18Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 19And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.&#8221;</div><div class="p"> 20Then David said to the whole assembly, &#8220;Praise the Lord your God.&#8221; So they all praised the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the Lord and the king.</div><div class="s1">Solomon Acknowledged as King</div><div class="p"> 21The next day they made sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to him: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22They ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the Lord that day.</div><div class="p">Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok to be priest. 23So Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him. 24All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David&#8217;s sons, pledged their submission to King Solomon.</div><div class="p"> 25The Lord highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendor such as no king over Israel ever had before.</div><div class="s1">The Death of David</div><div class="p"> 26David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. 27He ruled over Israel forty years&#8212;seven in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem. 28He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.</div><div class="p"> 29As for the events of King David&#8217;s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer, 30together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.</div>
