Some people brand Christians as Bible worshipers. They cynically say that Christians worship the Bible as they do God. In reality, Christians do not worship the Bible, but they do have a high regard for that sacred book. They believe God breathed out the Scriptures, based on the statement of Scripture itself. In his second letter to Timothy 3:16, the Apostle Paul wrote, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God." By that, he means God breathed out the Scriptures, so they are accurate and reliable. A study of Jesus' comments leaves no doubt that He regarded the Scriptures as God-given and very reliable. The trustworthiness of the Scriptures is why people living in Berea used them to check Paul and Silas' preaching. We read in Acts 17 that these men came to Berea bringing the message about Jesus Christ. They taught that Jesus is the Messiah that the Old Testament predicted would come; He revealed truth about God, was crucified, buried, and rose from the dead; as a result, men and women from any and all backgrounds may be forgiven and adopted into the family of God. These Bereans regarded the Scriptures as reliable; they used them to help them decide whether Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. They searched the Scriptures to test the accuracy of the message these men brought. Like the Bereans, we should examine the messages we hear in the light of God's truth found in the Bible.
