Daily Direction Reading PlanSample
Years ago, someone once asked a little boy why he walked so far to get to D. L. Moody’s Sunday School. He passed many churches on the way. The boy replied, “Because they love you over there.” That is the same reason many people flocked to hear Jesus—He loved people and showed it. We read in Mark 6 that when Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd—lost and helpless. So what did Jesus do? He taught them all day long. When it was late in the day, His disciples urged Him to send the people away to buy food to eat. His disciples saw the crowd as a problem. Jesus saw them as an opportunity. He said, “No, you feed them.” “What?” they asked. “It will take a fortune to feed this crowd.” Jesus then asked them to find out what they had. They checked and reported, “We have five loaves of bread and two fish”—a little boy’s lunch. Rather than complain that He had so little, Jesus thanked God for what He had. He broke the loaves into pieces, gave them to the disciples, and they gave them to the people. Five thousand men plus women and children ate their fill. That miracle showed that Jesus had come from God. At the same time, it showed how much Christ loved people. Like that little boy, we can place in Jesus’ hands our time, our talents, and our resources. Jesus will then use us to show His love to others.
