Increasingly today, we hear people say that all religions lead to God. Experts call this idea relativism. It argues that no one really knows which religion is right, so we should accept all religious claims as valid. That may seem like a progressive idea, but it contradicts the teaching of the Bible. We find in 1 Kings 18 that ancient Israel thought they could dance between two religions—Yahweh and the local religion of Baal. King Ahab called God’s prophet Elijah a troublemaker because he did not tolerate the worship of Baal. Elijah argued that Ahab was a troublemaker because he and the people refused to obey the LORD, "the God they had agreed to fully obey and worship." Elijah called for a test to identify the true God. Elijah said the one that answers by sending fire is the true God. He challenged the people to stop dancing between two deities. He said, “If the LORD is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” To show us that He alone is God, our Lord sent His only Son into the world. The Son insisted that He had come from God, and that He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. Jesus Christ died and rose again to validate His claims. We respect the right of every person or group to choose their belief system, but we cannot accept the false notion that all paths lead to Almighty God.
