Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 49 OF 365

Professionals who treat mental disorders say people can endure stress only for so long; eventually they break and engage in antisocial behavior. This may be true for many people, but in the book of Job, God declared that Job retained his integrity despite his suffering. We learn from Job 2 that when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, Satan came with them. The Lord asked Satan, “Where have you come from?" He said, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that is going on.” The Lord asked him, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of great integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you urged me to harm him without cause.” Despite God’s praise of Job’s integrity, Satan wanted to make Job give up his faith. Satan said to the Lord, “Skin for skin! A man will give up everything he has to save his life. But reach out and take away his health and he will surely curse you to your face!” “All right, do with him as you please,” the Lord said to Satan, "but spare his life." Satan left the Lord's presence and struck Job with terrible boils from head to toe. The man suffered physically, emotionally, and spiritually, but in the end, he was victorious. Job’s integrity can be a model for us today.
