Daily Direction Reading PlanSample
A driver saw several warning signs that read “Road closed. Detour,” but he was in a hurry, and since he saw cars coming from the opposite direction, he assumed the sign was in error. He chose not to detour. He finally discovered that the road was indeed closed. The cars coming from the opposite direction had made the same error in judgment he made. Long ago, God rescued His ancient people from Egyptian slavery. He said to them, “If you will obey my commands I will do good things for you.” But Psalm 81 records how the people responded to God. God said of them, “My people would not listen. Israel did not want me around. So I let them follow their blind and stubborn way, living according to their own desires. But oh, that my people would follow me, walking in my paths! How quickly I would subdue their enemies. I would feed you with the best of foods, I would satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.” Even today, God offers to satisfy our deepest longings. Yet many people are like the ancient Israelites. They ignore God, choosing to follow their own inclinations. But in doing so, they miss all that God offers. Jesus, God’s Son, once said, “I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry again. Those who believe in me will never thirst.” Jesus Christ still extends this wonderful invitation. It is up to us to accept it.
