DAY 334 OF 365

According to experts, phony products cost U.S. businesses $250 billion a year. We lose 750,000 jobs. Besides, fake products threaten our health and safety. Counterfeiters are usually criminals who cheat businesses out of revenue, governments out of taxes, and the public out of safe, genuine products. They force children to work as slaves, and inventors and writers to lose their creations. But what do we say about counterfeit Christians? The Apostle John had to deal with some in the first century. A group of false teachers wormed their way into the church and drew away many to follow their false teaching. They claimed to have superior knowledge. They denied that Jesus was God's Son in the flesh. They said Christ was just a ghost. They justified their wicked lifestyle by rejecting the teachings of Christ and the apostles. John wrote to the true believers to correct their thinking and to urge them to stick with the truth. He based his authority on certain historical facts. He said he and the other apostles had seen, heard, and touched the Messiah. Their knowledge came from Christ Himself so it was reliable; the false teachers used speculation as the basis for their doctrine. John said true followers of Jesus Christ confess Him as God's Son and rely on Him as their Savior. John said God's people show their true identify by the way they live and love one another.
