Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 23 OF 365

Some critics of the Bible question its authority. They ask, "Why should we rely on the Bible for answers of right and wrong, since humans wrote it?" One answer for the critics is that according to the Bible, God has the right to answer that question. Exodus 12 records one place where God makes that point. Moses' siblings, Miriam and Aaron, criticized Moses. They belittled him because he had married a woman of Cushite ancestry. Cush was the first son of Ham. His name means burnt-face or black. One of their complaints was that Moses had married a woman of another ethnic group—a Black woman. But that criticism was just a pretext for their real jealousy. They were jealous of Moses because of his prophetic gifts. God had chosen him to be His primary spokesperson. The Lord heard their criticism and was furious that these two questioned God's right to speak through Moses. God called them to account. When the two stepped forward at God's order, God clarified His relationship to Moses. He declared His right to reveal Himself in the way He chooses. God said He alone decides how, to whom, and in what way He reveals Himself! Since that is so, we cannot doubt God's right to use flawed humans to give us the Bible. The Apostle Paul tells us that God breathed out the Scriptures. Since God breathed the Bible, we can trust it to tell us what God wants us to know.
