Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 180 OF 365

We sometimes hear little boys boast, “My daddy can beat your daddy.” Boys amuse us with their confidence in their fathers. But confidence in our heavenly Father far exceeds that of a human father. The writer of Psalm 91 celebrates God’s attributes and actions toward His children—those who revere and rely on God. He writes, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” The writer illustrates this truth. He speaks of God protecting His people as the eagle protects her young, covering them with her feathers and sheltering them with her wings. He refers to God’s promises as a shield that protects God’s children from danger—whether the danger comes from man-made arrows or from natural disasters in the form of pestilence at night. The writer insists that God can protect us from dangers that are seen and unseen. Perhaps Paul is thinking of this truth when he writes this in Romans 8: “I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
