Several schoolteachers asked their classes to write essays on why teens wear baggy pants. Students say teens wear baggy pants to upset adults. Experts say teens learn rebellion from adults. Of course, rebellion began long ago in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve rejected God’s authority. We know the story. Satan clothed himself as a serpent to deceive the woman. He shrewdly asked her, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden. It is only the fruit from the tree in the middle of garden we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'" “You won’t die!” the serpent replied. God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful, its fruit looked delicious, and she craved the wisdom the fruit would give her. So she took some and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it too. They rebelled against God’s clear command. Satan had alienated them from God by questioning God’s motive and denying what God said. Rebellion against God is the cause of violence and confusion in the world today. We will only reverse that trend when we revere and obey God.
