Enjoy the Little Moments
But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. II PETER 3:8
I was watching a video with my daughter the other day. In the video, she was just a few months old, and it is so fun to look back on what she looked like at that age. The video showed what she loved to do at that age with her little hands and feet. I’m so glad I took that video, as I might not have remembered how tiny her hands were or what she loved to do at that time. Recording that special little moment helped me to remember it years later.
Remember, Mama, it isn’t always the big moments, the lavish vacations, the amazingly planned party that can stick with you and them forever—often it is just the small, “ordinary” moments. Cuddling together on the couch to watch a good movie or taking a walk into town... deciding on a whim to get ice cream after dinner or going around the table to share your favorite thing from that day. There are so many small moments each day that, while ordinary, should be cherished. A laugh at the breakfast table, a smile before saying goodbye, a bedtime story, or a kiss good night... a trip to the store together or just going on a walk and talking about all the things. Whether your kids are younger or older, there are so many little moments that can be created and shared.
Made for This!
Think back to when you were a kid. What are some of your favorite memories? What did you do? Were you making smores in the backyard or going on a surprise picnic lunch? We can create fun and lasting memories, even in ordinary times, for them and us too. This week, try to stop in the little moments of the day—maybe close your eyes and listen to your kids playing games, or take a moment at the dinner table tonight and soak it all in. The days are long, but the years are short. If your kids are no longer home, you can still take out those photos and videos you took—and take a trip back down memory lane.
