The Life of DavidSample
Day 14: 1 Sam. 26-28 x Kennedy Jones, Levite at UPPERROOM
Then Abishai said to David, “Today God has surrendered your enemy into your hand; so now, please let me strike him with the spear to the ground with one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.” But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against the anointed of Yahweh and be without guilt?” David also said, “As Yahweh lives, surely Yahweh will smite him, or his day will come that he dies, or he will go down into battle and be swept away. Yahweh forbade that I should stretch out my hand against the anointed of Yahweh, but now please take the spear that is at his head and the jug of water, and let us go.” (1 Samuel 26:8-11 LSB)
David was living in a place of conviction! David valued the word of God over Saul’s life more than his desire to see his promises from God fulfilled. He entrusted his life, his deliverance, and his future–and even Saul’s future–to the hand of God and did not rush to obtain what was promised to him, even at the most advantageous times. David lived with the conviction to honor and protect what God had already established!
Prayer: Jesus, I entrust my life to You. For every good thing that You’ve given me and called me into, I give You permission to fulfill in Your own time and in Your own way, and I trust that You are good. Those You have put in leadership are there for a reason. I want the fear of the Lord and honor for Your ways to outweigh any desire I have for myself. I am confident in this: that You have begun a good work, and You will be faithful to complete it. Amen!
