Praying for Your Wild ChildSample

Praying for Your Wild Child

DAY 4 OF 5

The biggest revelation in parenting for me was the acceptance that trying to control everything about my children puts me in a position where I’m acting like their God. The more controlling we are, the more we are focused on how we want things instead of how God wants things.

Years ago, I remember a friend of mine calling her children little sinners. That still brings laughter to me today because it’s the truth – our children are sinners. But so are we. Accepting that our children sin every day breaks through the idea of perfectionism. If your children didn’t sin, they wouldn’t need a Savior – and that’s not true for anyone. In fact, that takes away glory from the power of the Cross.
No one on this earth is a perfect little angel, including your kids.

As they grow, your children will continue to sin. They’ll continue to make bad choices, do things that you dislike, hang out with people that you don’t like, and fail—just like we all do. But understanding that will allow you the freedom to encourage them with Scripture. God's word doesn’t go void. Speak it over your children, live it out, and hold on to the promises found in it.

So, pray for God to show you how to respond in the Holy Spirit instead of reacting in your flesh. Pray for you to release them to him and for him to be their God, not you. Pray for wisdom to parent your little sinners.
