My Shepherd
Sheep are simple creatures, but they follow very well. A sheep will either follow another sheep or will follow the shepherd, but make no doubt, they follow. So many times in scripture, Jesus is referenced as our shepherd, leading us to believe that we need to be following Him. However, it takes a conscious effort to follow Christ. It’s one thing to “say” you are a Christian, but another thing altogether to follow Christ daily.
Who do you follow? As you go about your day, do you find yourself following the crowd? Following what people are doing on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest? Do you follow your church? Do you follow your friends? Only Jesus can make the promise that if you follow Him, you “shall not be in want.” That’s a big promise, a God sized promise, and one that Jesus is very capable of fulfilling.
Who are you following? Who is worth following? Choose today to follow the one and only true shepherd. Go to Him to get your needs met. Go to Christ to….
—restore your soul (vs 3)
—fear no evil (vs 4)
—receive comfort (vs 4)
—have your cup overflow (vs 5)
—have goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life (vs 6)
Choose today to follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd who is ready and willing to lead you well.
Prayer
Father, thank You for leading me. God, thank You for being my shepherd, always there to show me the way. My prayer, as I go about my day, is that You will come to my mind and I will make the decision to follow You. So many times, I follow without thinking about “what” or “who” I am following. But today, I want to change the course of my days, and follow only You.
