Money Mindset Shift Through PrayerSample
On day 2 of Money Mindset Shift through Prayer, I want to share 5 questions you can ask yourself when evaluating your relationship with money.
In order to get started with question number one, you'll need to be familiar with a term: "scarcity mentality."
As Christians we can define a scarcity mentality in terms of money and worldly possessions as a mindset rooted in fear and doubt rather than trust in God's abundant provision. It's the belief that resources are limited, leading to behaviors marked by hoarding, greed, and anxiety about not having enough.
This perspective stands in stark contrast to our faith-filled understanding of abundance, which recognizes God's sovereignty, mercy, and generosity.
Overcoming a scarcity mentality involves nurturing faith, embracing generosity, and trusting in God's continual provision, acknowledging that He is the ultimate provider and sustainer of all things.
- Do I have a fearful, scarcity mentality when it comes to money? What am I afraid of?
- Do I feel anxiety or worry when the topic of finances comes up? Why?
- Do I stockpile or hoard things I don’t need or use? What is at the heart of this habit?
- Do I equate money with happiness? Why?
- What amount of money is “enough” for me?
When you ask yourself these questions, remember to also show yourself some grace. We live in a money-obsessed world, but as followers of Christ, we must always remember who we are and whose we are.
As followers of Christ, it's essential to evaluate our perspective on money through the lens of our faith. Instead of succumbing to fear and scarcity, let's embrace a mindset of abundance rooted in trust in God's provision and promise. Matthew 6:21 reminds us that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. Let's seek to align our priorities with God's kingdom, recognizing that true wealth lies in our relationship with Him. Proverbs 11:25 encourages us that a generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Let's be channels of God's blessings, generously sharing what we have and trusting in His abundant provision for all our needs.
It’s never too late to turn towards God and prioritize your relationship with the Father who loves, protects, and provides for you. Take a moment to reflect and I'll see you on day 3!
