Armor Up (For the Workplace)Sample

Armor Up (For the Workplace)

DAY 3 OF 7

The Sword of the Spirit

In the armor analogy, the Word is a sword. Whether your mental image for a sword fight is a fencing match, your favorite medieval battle movie, or a friendly backyard stick fight between a pair of elementary aged kids, you can picture the sparring. It always includes a dance, as the sword is used both defensively and offensively. One moment a sword is used to protect and the next it is used to take a swing at an opponent.

Just like a sword, the Word of God is used in both defense and offense. While it often isn’t appropriate (let alone effective) to engage in a theological debate in the workplace, a solid understanding of the Scriptures allow us to address questions about Scripture as they are asked of us. Furthermore, when we are clear in our understanding of who God is and the hope of the gospel, we are better able to withstand the attacks of the Enemy. A solid Christian walk does not exist without a solid understanding of Scripture. It would be like my four-year-old wielding a real sword with no training and without the strength to hold it up properly. We can’t align our lives with something we don’t truly know and understand. Studying the Word of God is an essential part of the Christian life.

PRAYER: Lord, give me an understanding of your Word. Give me wisdom when determining when and how to share your Word with others.
