Goodness Gracious: 14 Unfiltered Devotions for This Sometimes-Too-Serious LifeSample
Go Big or Go Home
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! LUKE 11:13
After years of living in tiny apartments, Blaine and I were ready for a single-family home. Our poor neighbors were probably itching for us to leave too. Paper-thin walls sure make it hard to sleep when there’s a newborn baby next door screaming bloody murder every hour of the night. I’m shocked the cops were never called.
After looking around, we found a house. It was beautiful, functional, perfect for our growing family; and goodness gracious, this momma wanted it, bad. However, someone beat us to the punch, and we were second in line. Womp, womp, womp.
The scenario seemed bleak, but we started praying big. We prayed that God would grant the desire of our hearts. We prayed that He would somehow, someway, draw the landlord’s eyes toward our application. Sure enough, one week later, we got the call: our prayers were answered, the owner denied the first application and chose us. I literally jumped and squealed and danced like Elvis in celebration. We were in awe of how God granted us favor despite such unfavorable circumstances!
Sometimes it’s hard to believe that God truly listens to the things we ask for, but He does! He wants to show up in ways that are beyond our wildest dreams. He wants to prove that He can do exceedingly and abundantly above anything we could ask or think.
In fact, did you know that praying limited prayers is an insult to our Almighty God? Refusing to ask Him for big things is basically saying, “I don’t believe You can do that, therefore I won’t even ask.” Bologna snot! He is more than able, and it tickles Him pink to hear us ask for the most gigantic, humongous, colossal requests.
No, God is not a genie. But He is a loving Father who desires to bless His children. Asking God for the miraculous puts our faith on display; therefore, be unafraid to go big when you pray!
God, I pray for the miraculous today. And if it is Your will, then guide me on what to do next. Amen.
