The Temptations

DAY 12 OF 28

Have you ever hidden something from a sibling or friend so that they couldn’t find it? One time, on my birthday, I hid my favorite present in a dresser drawer so that my brother would never find it (and most likely destroy it). However, when I went back into my room to play with the gift a few days later, I had forgotten where I put it. It looked like I had not only hidden the gift from my brother but from myself as well.

In the Psalms we are often reminded to “hide God’s word in our hearts,” or, in other words, treasure it so that we are reminded not to sin. When God’s word is hidden, just like when we hide something, it’s safe, and there is assurance that no one can take it away. But, during a busy day, I’m tempted to forget the significance of God’s word and how it can help me fight off sin. I forget that it’s hidden in my heart, ready to help me and protect me from the enemy.

One way I combat this is by keeping a weekly memory verse at the forefront of my mind. When the Word of God is readily available in our minds, we can recall it in moments of need. This has helped me significantly in fighting off sin.

Let this verse be the first you memorize and watch how God uses it throughout your week!
