Illuminate Your Life and Become a Shining Beacon of Christ

DAY 4 OF 5

Thank God for All Things

I know a couple who own several cats, and they once explained to me that they’re constantly picking things up around their home that pose potential and known dangers to their pets. The little furry ones seem to enjoy chewing on, scratching on, and chasing around all sorts of items that to humans are simply innocuous, inanimate objects. But for kittens, these “playthings” could even be lethal.

If the straight pins my friend uses for sewing become lodged in the carpet, they could puncture a paw. If a cat were to chew on the power cords to their electronics, they would suffer an electric shock. Earplugs, which are necessary to New York city apartment dwellings, are small enough for a cat to choke on. Many cats love to play in and camp out in plastic grocery bags, but if left unsupervised, they risk suffocation. There are scores of examples, and the felines have no idea of the dangers that their pet-parents protect them from.

God protects us in the same way. How many potential hazards has He prevented or removed from our lives without our ever learning about them? How many times has He protected us from untold harm or danger? How many times has He intervened and redirected our lives to help us avoid suffering and pain? We’ll probably never know this side of heaven.

How blessed we are to be able to find peace and comfort in the knowledge that our God loves us enough to serve as our armor and shield. He is always with us—guiding, protecting, and safeguarding us. Even though we’ll never know every single thing he’s done to ensure our safety and wellbeing, we do know one thing, the most important thing, that He did for us: He sacrificed His Son.

Thank God for all things. Both known and unknown.

To God alone be glory!
