What's the Hurry?Sample
Day 2: Idol Anyone?
Have you allowed anything or anyone to take the place of God? Worship, reverence, and obedience are all acts required of Christ’s followers. Do your responsibilities or acquaintances require more of you than God does?
Imagine this, you’re making a mad dash to your child’s middle school. Your child’s principal calls you because he’s in trouble (again) for having a food fight in the cafeteria. The lane you’re driving in suddenly goes from two lanes down to one. Now, you find yourself behind a person going 30 mph on a 50 mph road – and no one is in front of them. What do you do? Plot twist – If you knew this person was on the way to a funeral home and about to make final plans for his late wife of 48 years, would you respond differently?
Anything can become an idol, even an agenda. When we worship our plans (taking second to none), hold reverence to our agenda – forsaking all others, or obey our selfish thoughts, with no consideration for the least of us, we do this very thing. No personal agenda should be idolized over God’s instruction to bear the fruits of the Spirit: “Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things (Galatians 5:22-23).”

About this Plan
Each day, I ask myself, “Why is everyone in such a hurry?” People are so stressed and in a rush that it is obvious our society has forgotten about the truly important things. This devotional is designed to help us refocus and invite Christ back into the center of our lives. When we focus on Him, everything else becomes secondary and a lot less stressful.
