Songs of the Soul: A Lent Devotional

DAY 34 OF 40

This psalm is a contemplation of David when he was betrayed by the Ziphites (who were Israelites and shared the same tribe as David) to King Saul but before God's deliverance was displayed.

In David's distress, he both relied on the Name and Might of God. The Name of God speaks to His Character. He is Powerful. He is Able. He is Mighty. His Strength speaks of His Great Power.

David's first recourse in his situation was to call on God whom he knew was his Helper and the Upholder of his life. God had many times delivered him before from his enemies. God's Faithfulness in the past became the foundation for future faith.

God did not disappoint David, He delivered him from his trouble and made him triumph over his enemies. David knew what it was like to defeat his enemies like Goliath, and he trusted that God would do it again. This is the language of faith. He knew he overcame not because of his own might and power but because of God's.

Prayer:
Dear God, I thank You because whatever situation I am in now, I, like David can confidently come to You. Thank You because Your past Faithfulness in my life is a foundation to my faith.
