Seven Sins That Will Destroy Your LifeSample

Seven Sins That Will Destroy Your Life

DAY 13 OF 14

Pride - What God is saying about pride (1)

But once he had the power, Uzziah became pleased with himself, and that was the beginning of his end (2 Chronicles 26:16).

The Lord abhors a conceited (arrogant) person (Proverbs 16:5).

On pride follows doom, on self-exaltation follows the fall (Proverbs 16:18).

Everyone who wants to grow up in your circle must be your servant; and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. So it is with the Son of Man: He did not come to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many people (Matthew 20:26-28).

But the greatest among you must be willing to serve the other. Whoever is haughty will be humbled, and whoever is humble will be exalted (Matthew 23:11-12).

He needs to become more and I less (John 3:30).

In humility, one should esteem the other higher than himself (Philippians 2:3).

God resists the proud, but to the humble He gives grace (James 4:6).

It is nearly impossible to define and describe pride. The following remarks may be helpful. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you.

Pride makes faith impossible.

Pride does not pray.

Haughty faith is as great an impossibility as a humble devil.

Pride always leads to shame, destruction, struggle, hardened hearts, and deception.

For a man without pride, there are no limits to what God can do in and through him.

Pride cost Satan heaven.

In his Ode to Melancholy, Thomas Hood writes: Of all prides since Lucifer's attaint, the proudest swells a self-elected saint.

Pride comes in many forms: racial pride, boasting, conceit, pretense, pride of beauty, giftedness, intellect, position, fame, clothing, political positions, being excited when people acknowledge you, and having a form of godliness but not its power, etc.

Pride believes that something good lives in you and that you are capable of something good.

A haughty person quickly feels that some types of work and responsibilities are beneath his dignity; it does not suit a person of his stature.
