What Jesus Said About God the Holy Spirit

DAY 4 OF 7

The Holy Spirit gives gifts to all believers

In Romans 12:8, we are told to use the various gifts of the Spirit according to the character of God and His revealed will with simplicity… with diligence… with cheerfulness. In 1 Corinthians 12:24-25, we are told that God has put the body together, giving greater honour to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.

1 Corinthians 12:4 says that not everyone has the same gifts. Through prayer, your daily walk with God and the confirmation of other believers, the Holy Spirit will show you your specific gifts.

A brief list of spiritual gifts (Dr. Larry Gilbert)

Miraculous Gifts

1. Apostleship (1 Corinthians 12:28; Ephesians 4:11).

2. Tongues (1 Corinthians 12:10;28; 30).

3. Interpretation (1 Corinthians 12:10; 30).

4. Miracles (1 Corinthians 12:10; 28).

5. Healing (1 Corinthians 12:10; 28).

Enabling Gifts

6. Faith (1 Corinthians 12:9).

7. Discernment (1 Corinthians 12:10).

8. Wisdom (1 Corinthians 12:8).

9. Knowledge (1 Corinthians 12:8).

Team Gifts

10. Evangelism: passionately leading others to the saving knowledge of Christ (Ephesians 4:11).

11. Prophecy: boldly and fearlessly proclaiming God's truth (Romans 12:6; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Corinthians 12:10; 28).

12. Teaching: making clear the truth of God's Word with simplicity and accuracy (Romans 12:7; 1 Corinthians 12:28).

13. Exhortation: motivating others to action, application, and purpose (Romans 12:8).

14. Shepherding: overseeing, training, feeding, coaching/leading (Ephesians 4:11).

15. Serving: providing practical physical and spiritual help (Romans 12:7; 1 Corinthians 12:28).

16. Mercy-showing: identifying and comforting those in need (Romans 12:8).

17. Giving: releasing material resources to further the work of the Church (Romans 12:8).

18. Administration: organising, administering, promoting, leading (Romans 12:8; 1 Corinthians 12:28).

In Ephesians 4:11-13 Paul gives us five "offices". Some groups feel these can also be seen as gifts: Evangelists, Prophets, Teachers, Exhorters, and Shepherds.

Obedience: Ask the Holy Spirit to show you which gifts he has given to you. Do not desire gifts that you see in other people.

About this Plan

What Jesus Said About God the Holy Spirit

In general, many Christians know something about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. But we know too little about the Person of the Holy Spirit, especially the fact that the Holy Spirit is God and that He is one of the persons in the Trinity. This study will help you to understand more about God the Holy Spirit.
