Good To Know: Good Advice For A Better Life

DAY 6 OF 9

“I believe in you.” “You’re going to be okay!”

When someone says those words to me, I believe I can accomplish anything. In fact, the more influence you have in my life, the more meaningful your words will be to me.

Words can give life, and words can shatter dreams. We’ve all been on the receiving end of conversations that made us want to call it quits; while at other times, we’ve heard  words that have brought us back to life.

Journeying through life, I found myself believing the lie that I wasn’t good enough, or that I didn’t have what it takes. It wasn’t until someone looked me in the eyes and spoke truth that I started to think differently. Their words didn’t fix the problem, but just like the proverb suggests, they did bring healing.

Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can kill a spirit.

Like most things in life, we can’t control what others will do or say, but we can control how we use our own tongues. So the question becomes, Will you use your words to bring healing? Will you leverage your words to shape, challenge, and encourage others?

Questions for Reflection:

  • When you look back on the things you’ve said this week, do you think your words have caused harm or good? Was there anyone you could have encouraged with a kind word instead of harm?
  • What words have caused the most damage in your life? What words have brought the most healing?
