KykNET Lent Guide 2025: In the Shadow of GethsemaneSample

…as usual
Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives – Luke 22:39 (NIV)
Jesus had habits. Things he did repeatedly. They were set patterns of behavior—actions he chose to form habits. We also have habits because there are things we do repeatedly. Maybe you get up at the same time every day. Maybe you start your day with a cup of coffee to wake up. Perhaps you eat certain food in a certain place. You might not even be aware that you have certain habits. Out of all the things you do in the 16 hours you are awake every day, you may only be aware of 6. The rest are auto-pilot.
It's important to be aware of the things we do out of habit because they shape us. We become that which we do repeatedly. Jesus was aware of his habits. He chose certain things, and he chose to perform the things He chose in a certain way. The invitation He extended to His followers was not only to believe in Him but also to adopt His way of doing things and His habits. This means we not only have to believe and accept the things He’s done for us, but we should also follow Him in what He did and how He did it. (Rom 5:10)
