On Purpose: A Lent Devotional Journey

DAY 27 OF 40

Day 27 | Creating and recreating

Reflection

The Bible is full of stories of people praising God, of people delighting in expressing their joy to God. This abundance of noise is a beautiful response to the love and grace of Jesus, the sound of people filled with the Holy Spirit.

But what if you’re not musical? Does that mean your expression of worship is less valuable? Is the musician more highly respected than the painter, or the cook? By no means. Worship is so much more than music. It’s the whole of our life.

In Christ, we are invited into the work of creation. Filled by the Spirit, we can make good work. We are also invited into the work of restoration, making good what has been damaged or is worn out. In this, we echo Jesus’ work in us and in the whole universe. When we do this work of creation and restoration, we join God in his wonderful work.

Work is so wonderful, it’s worshipful. The account of Bezalel’s woodworking ability in today’s passage demonstrates an opportunity to glorify God in the good things we take pleasure in.

So, how do you join in with God’s purposes of creation and recreation in your leisure time? How can you honour God with whatever good things you choose to do in your downtime?

God, as I use my creativity today, please help me to make things that express my delight. As I restore what is broken, messy, and worn out, let me be reminded of the way you restore me. Amen.

About this Plan

On Purpose: A Lent Devotional Journey

Discover God-given purpose in everything you do. This Lent devotional journey invites you to think differently about your whole life – your family, friendships, work, interests, and neighbourhoods. Over 40 days, you’ll get to grips with the Bible’s view of purpose, and read true stories of how that purpose is worked out in all kinds of Christians’ lives today.
