Engrained in Church

DAY 5 OF 7

Holy and Sanctified

When it came to pursuing a life of holiness and sanctification, I was quick to disqualify myself. Because of the sin of rape committed against me, becoming a mother of three children at the age of 17 as a result of abuse. Even after becoming a believer, I engaged in sexual relationships. I thought, “What is the point? It’s not like I’m a virgin.” I remember telling one of my best friends at church that I felt like this area did not apply to me because of the things I mentioned. She flat-out told me that I was. My reaction? I laughed in her face because of how ridiculous it sounded at the time. In reality, I genuinely had no knowledge or personal revelation from the lord in this area. I was blind to his truth.

Hang with me for just a moment. If you are willing, God will also reveal this to you. In the book of Mathew, chapter 21: 12-13 talks about how “ Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changer and the chairs of those selling doves. He said to them, “The scripture declares, “ My temple will be called a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of thieves.” It’s not our fault for the sexual abuse that was committed towards us. Remember that our bodies are temples where the holy spirit dwells. Think with me just a minute that Jesus drove out all the people that were buying and selling…” Jesus was angry about what was happening to the house of our heavenly father. Imagine just how angry he was when our temples (our bodies) were beaten, bruised, used, and hurt. That is how valuable we are to Jesus! So valuable that the Holy Spirit dwells in US! When I learned this revelation, it radically changed my perspective about my body. You are valuable and precious! I was able to realize that the reason I engaged in sexual sin was because of the deep-rooted trauma. It was my responsibility to heal and pray to God to uproot that.

Friends, it is time that we embrace the new life that God wants to give us and not look at ourselves from the lens of brokenness before meeting Christ. Let’s repent and turn away from our sins and ask for forgiveness. This is not an overnight process, so remember to be patient with yourself.

About this Plan

Engrained in Church

Growing up in a dysfunctional, broken family and being in and out of foster care has affected many areas of my life, including my relationship with God. It stopped me from joining a church community and pursuing everything that God wanted for me. If you find yourself lost, wondering how to step into the church community and have a relationship with God, you found the devotional!
